Many long term medications can induce weight gain which in turn can aggravate underlying conditions. Our nutritionist, Maya Kobessi can offer a personalized advice in weight management as well as healthy eating options as a part of management of rheumatic conditions.
Maya has over a decade of experience as a clinical dietitian in Canada and the UAE. She is a Member of the Professional Order of the Dietitians of Quebec in Canada and the Canadian Obesity Network. She graduated from the University of Montreal in Canada in nutritional science. She was trained at the Saint-Justine Mother and Child University Hospital Center and at the Montreal Heart Institute, where she has worked and supervised nutrition students. She has extensive experience in Arthritis, Auto-immune disorders, Obesity, Eating Disorders, General Pediatrics, Genetics, Pulmonology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology-Hepatology, Obstetrics and Neonatology, Cardiac surgery and Critical Care.
Upon moving to Dubai in 2012 she served as the Director of Weight Loss Programs at a number of clinics including Rheumatology center and worked closely with medical specialists providing nutrition and diet counseling for patients with arthritis and obesity. She has been the co-host of a weekly live television show on MBC 3 and a guest-expert in another weekly show on MBC3. She frequently serves as a nutrition expert at national meetings, industry-sponsored nutrition and health campaigns, and on radio and television shows.
She was the Director of nutrition programs at the Obesity Medicine Institute in Dubai and worked closely with an obesity medicine specialist to provide nutritional counseling for patients struggling with their weight. She also works with a multidisciplinary team that consist an obesity medicine doctor, a psychologist and a bariatric surgeon to provide nutritional care for pre and post bariatric surgery patients.
Maya has extensive experience working with general pediatrics and loves working with kids. In Her pediatric weight loss approach, she aims to empower kids and parents with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to develop and maintain lifelong healthy habits.
